From what I gather, this fire was caused by a barbeque on a balcony. Despite efforts, the fire made it through the roof. Crews made short work of this blaze.

My roommate called me to his window, and told there was a fire downtown. When I saw a huge lomb up, I was out the door with digi cam in hand. I headed east on the 417 towards the huge cloud of smoke. I got off the Queensway at Montreal Rd, and was met by a huge volume of traffic. The fire was at the Hydro Sub Station on Shefford Rd, near Canotek. I made my way to an area north of the fire, and was able to get a few pictures of crews working. When I arrived the fire was still rolling, however, the two tower ladders (L51 and L53) made short work of the fire. Crews also used a few large hand lines to bring the beast under control.

Fire at Station 12 - March 3, 2009

Around 1430, station 12 crew advised communications that they had extinguished a small fire in the basement, possibly mechanical room. Crews requested an additional pump, district chief, and ladder 13 was on scene. Fire was put out with dry chemical and then the building was ventilated. One person was transported to hospital by EMS. Safety 23 also attended the call. I believe the person transported to hospital was a contractor, and not a fire fighter.

Rumors and more rumors... From various sources on and off the service, this is the gossip on new equipment. I have herd talk of a 134 foot E-One Bronto being supplied by Federal money, two new rescues, a pump tank, a command post (SVI maybe...?) and some other rigs. I would be willing to guess that P33 and P43 will see something soon, and maybe P71, P72, P73 and P92. I am sure a PT will fit into the picture some place... With the addition of a couple ladders for 23 and 57 and a few tankers, that should turn over the entire fleet. (post amalgamation)

Ottawa International Airport's brand new Seagrave medium rescue/command. I saw it while passing by the Ottawa Truck Center, hard to miss the color. I understand the rig will be going into service very soon. It's an International 4x4, built by Seagrave Canada. Very cool looking truck.

That are found on many ladder trucks, including OFS's newest ladders and tower ladder rigs. Many operators have told me they prefer the A - frame for faster set-up.

Ottawa has traditionally run a rescue from the Glebe. The current station 12, the former Ottawa FD station 10. The city of Nepean kept a rescue in Barr Haven, station 44, formerly NFD station 3. I recall talk at one time of Nepean moving the rescue to station 4, or the current station 25.

These two rigs run a second piece, a technical rescue van.
